An aerial 1080 operation on that day was being flown by helicopter contractors completing pest control work for the Department of Conservation’s Battle for our Birds programme and OSPRI’s TBfree programme.
Information about the timing and location of aerial operations is notified to all land users and operators in the region, and is publically available. Factsheets containing maps detailing the location and boundaries of the operation are published, as required by the consenting process.
Public notices outlining the location and timing of the operation were published in newspapers ahead of the operation.
Tourism concessionaires operating in the region are provided with operational maps and details on the planned timeframes, including the contact details for the contractor. For this operation, notification to concessionaires occurred on three separate occasions throughout the delivery of the Mokihinui aerial operation, which was completed on Friday 2 December.
