The pallet drop, by OSPRI, will cover about 24,000 hectares along the northern half of the Remutaka Range which backs onto Wainuiomata and runs up the eastern side of the Hutt Valley to the top by Kaitoke.
A company spokesman emphasised the importance of keeping dogs safe around possum control operations when the drop is made at the end of the month or start of August weather-permitting. Warning signs at entrances will confirm dates.
Baits and poisoned possum carcasses are extremely toxic to dogs, symptoms may appear after 30 minutes.
Dogs may appear disoriented or hyperactive, bark or howl, be sensitive to touch or aggressive.
