Dog owners are advised to be careful at the Remutaka Range after the completion of a big 1080 poison drop later this month.
The pallet drop, by OSPRI, will cover about 24,000 hectares along the northern half of the Remutaka Range which backs onto Wainuiomata and runs up the eastern side of the Hutt Valley to the top by Kaitoke.

The goal is to kill possums to stop them spreading bovine tuberculosis, TB, to cattle and deer on farms among other animals.
A company spokesman emphasized the importance of keeping dogs safe around possum control operations when the drop is made at the end of the month or start of August weather-permitting. Warning signs at entrances will confirm dates.
Baits and poisoned possum carcasses are extremely toxic to dogs, symptoms may appear after 30 minutes.
Dogs may appear disoriented or hyperactive, bark or howl, be sensitive to touch or aggressive.
