On november 14, the government will lift restrictions on gambling on online casinos which has been in place since July 2020 due to covid-19. The restrictions have included deposit limits of $ 5,000 onor, mandatory for players to set limits on playing time, and that casino bonuses only may amount to 10 $.

The restrictions were initially to apply until June 2021, but as the spread of covid-19 was still high, it was decided to extend the restrictions until november 14. And now the extra restrictions for online casino games will disappear. This will lead to more New Zealand casino entering the New Zealand gambling market remains to be seen.

The root cause of the restrictions

The restrictions have been in place to reduce the risk of more and more people falling into a gambling problem, when during the corona pandemic we have had changed habits, and spent more time at home and were idle. However, there has been a$ITIC against the restrictions because it has been argued that the restrictions have instead made more players look to casinos without a New Zealand gaming license, to access bonuses and simpler games. This can pose significant risks to players.

Development of games and gambling problems

Despite the additional restrictions, turnover in the gaming market has increased during the period.

Social Security Minister Ardalan Shekarabi believes that this may have led to a long-term behavioral change that could become very problematic. It is a change that needs to be followed up, to examine whether further measures need to be taken.

The gaming Inspectorate has been commissioned to monitor the development of games and gambling problems and must submit a partial report of the first part of the assignment by March 15, 2022. The entire assignment is to be finalized on October 31, 2022.

Online casino gambling restrictions that disappear november 14, 2021:

  • Deposit limit at the online casino of Max 5 00 $.
  • It is mandatory to set a limit on playing time.
  • Bonuses may max out to$100 onor.
