Bookmakers can reduce gambling problems

The gaming industry is today a very debated industry and there are many voices that believe that gambling and online casinos should be banned. There are absolutely risks with gambling and gambling addiction is real. However, much of the debate revolves around the fact that all gambling operators would be really ugly fish who only want to make money at any price.

Kindred Group, New Zealand Games and ATG wanted to do something about this view and therefore took a joint decision to publish every six months certain key figures to , which shows how they work to prevent and reduce gambling problems. The first reports from them came on January 25th, and clearly show that bookmakers can actually reduce the problematic gambling of their customers.

Customers who were contacted reduced their gambling

All three operators had made contact with a certain number of players who were active on their platforms and who showed an alarming gaming pattern. Kindred contacted 0.5 percent of its registered players and the result was that 76.8 percent of all contacted players reduced their gambling after that. Which, of course, is very positive. And even more positive is that it was about a significant reduction, as much as 75.5 percent less deposits on average. In total, about 2 percent chose to shut themselves off from games on all Kindred Group platforms.

Also at New Zealand Gaming and ATG saw decreases after operators had been in contact with players they considered to have a risk behavior in their gambling. However, the pattern was not quite the same, although there were always reductions. At New Zealand games, there were about the same number who reduced their gambling, but only by an average of 49.6 percent of the size of the stakes. At ATG, it was only 52.4 percent who reduced their gambling, but the total was then again larger and was 64.9 percent. However, it was remarkable that 9.5% of New Zealand spel's contacted customers chose to suspend themselves for 6 months from playing with them.

Kindred Group wants to increase its transparency

For Kindred Group, This is an important step to further increase its transparency towards its shareholders. They already have the goal of a zero vision regarding making profit on high-risk players. By publishing data on the work against gambling problems, and more focus on responsible gaming in this way, they hope that shareholders will have more confidence in them. They also want to show that with the help of rules, technology, human relations and research, it is actually possible to make gambling a less problematic industry.
